Modern, energy-efficient homes are often too airtight to let allergens like skin cells and pet dander escape, which can make allergy symptoms worse indoors than outdoors.
Joe explains that the same sealing that keeps energy bills down also traps the particles people are most allergic to, letting them recirculate through the home instead of clearing out.
The fix is running an air purifier alongside the furnace fan so that air keeps moving through the system and getting cleaned, paired with a quality media filter for the best results.

This week on airing it out with Joe, we’re gonna talk about how your indoor air quality and allergies are worse in your home and what we can do to solve that.
Alright. Why is it worse in your home? A lot of these new homes were really energy efficient, which is great for us. We’re gonna save money on bills.
But the problem with that is we make them so airtight. A lot of that home air that were breathing out were shedding our skin cells. Pets are shedding their hair and everything else, it can’t escape the home. So all this doing is recirculating in the home.
Let’s talk about some solutions. If you find yourself having worse allergies in your home or you just want better clean or air inside your home, you really wanna get in on the air purifiers.
Those air purifiers for your home are gonna allow that air that we’re talking about to be circulated through the system as we keep our fan on for our furnace, it’s gonna allow it to circulate through the system and clean up that air.
Something mixed with that media filter is gonna be great. It’s gonna take all of that out of that air and those airtight homes aren’t such a problem anymore. Next week’s episodes coming in, stay tuned.
