Denver’s naturally low relative humidity, often 22 to 26 percent, can crack wood furniture and flooring and dry out nasal passages during winter months.
Joe covers what happens when a home stays too dry for too long: wood furniture and hardwood floors can crack and separate, creating tripping hazards, and dry nasal passages overnight leave people more open to getting sick.
The right fix depends on home size and how much wood furniture or flooring is involved. Bypass humidifiers suit smaller homes, fan-powered humidifiers work well for mid-size homes, and steam humidifiers are the best fit for homes with a lot of wood or instruments that need a consistent humidity level. Joe recommends a professional estimate to find the right size for any given home.

This week, we’re talking about low humidity in your home and how it affects it. If you remember one of my earlier videos, we were talking about how Denver’s climate is kind of like the Sahara Desert or low relative humidity stays around like 22%, 26%, which you really wanna increase during those winter months when we don’t have humidity in the air.
Let’s talk about some of the problems you’re gonna have. If you have a lot of wood furniture, a lot of that wood furniture is gonna start to dry out and crack. We all spend too much on furniture.
We don’t want that expensive furniture cracking on us and us having to change our furniture after two years, especially our hardwood floors.
Hardwood floors, the problem with that is you have to keep them at a certain humidity. If you don’t, they’ll start to separate themselves, create tripping hazards, and we don’t want nobody falling in the home.
When you’re sleeping at night, we breathe through our nostrils, and we don’t have the proper humidification in the home, we’ll start to dry out our nostrils, which leaves us open to getting sick.
On top of that dry skin, dry hair, everything else, let’s talk about some solutions today. So it’s gonna depend on your size, and that’s when I’d recommend you get us out there to actually do an estimate for you, just what’s gonna fit your home perfectly. But you have many different options.
You have a bypass humidifier. What’s meant for the smaller homes? You have a fan powered humidifier.
There’s gonna be for those, kind of mid size home, and people that don’t have a lot of wood furniture. And for the people who have a lot of wood furniture, wood floors, or really like pianos or instruments in their home. And we really got to keep that set point of humidity.
You’ll be looking at something like a steam humidifier now these steam humidifiers are great. Give us a call, and we can definitely do a determination on your home on which one’s gonna be perfect for you. Stay tuned for next week’s video.
